May 4, 2018 - After long hiatus, finally back to work on the rear canopy. Marked all the edges for final trim. The sides will be brought up above the longerons. May 5, 2018 - One of the red line marks for trimming. June 2, 2018 - Ordered new sheets of aluminum from Aircraft Spruce to fabricate new rear canopy trim pieces. Ordered two sheets 6060-T6, 24 inch X 48 inch, .016 inch thick. Second sheet is backup for mistakes. Jun 2, 2018 - Using poster paper to make templates for test fits. A 36 inch long piece should be a good start. Jun 4, 2018 - Note the new templates have a wider 'head' than the original trim pieces. Jun 4, 2018 = Template on the right side. The wider 'head' allows using the exiting bulkhead rivet line.
Jun 4, 2018 - New right side aluminum trim piece based on template. Jul 17, 2018 - Fuselage skin and longeron drilled preparing for rear canopy cover trim. Jul 18, 2018 - The left side trim piece clecoed in place. Used a combination of back-drilling through the longeron, and a strap finder to locate the holes. Jul 18, 2018 - Right side trim piece clecoed in place. Jul 19, 2018 - Blue line indicates approximate locations for drilling into the canopy. Jul 20, 2018 - The trim piece is predrilled before drilling into the canopy. Jul 27, 2018 - Gary Reynolds helping again. Here he is sanding after trimming more from from the left side of the rear canopy. Jul 27, 2018 - Rear canopy in place, placing first cleco. Jul 27, 2018 - Back portions of canopy clecoed. Continuing to drill canopy to rear support hoop. Jul 27, 2018 - Rear canopy finally drilled and clecoed in place. Jul 27, 2018 - A closer look at all the clecos so far.
